Abstract

The manufacturing industry sector has a very important role in the national economy, even provide the biggest added value among the eight other GRDP sectors, and remain the leading sector in the economy of South Sumatra. Nearly 25 percent of the economy in South Sumatra Province is supported by the manufacturing industry sector. In the fourth quarter of 2010, the contribution of the manufacturing industry towards the economy of South Sumatra by 21.41 percent, and there was a slight slowdown in the role of industry in III quarter of 2011 this amounted to 20.61 percent.

Growth in Production of Large and Medium Manufacturing Industries in the fourth quarter of 2011, South Sumatra Province experienced a slowdown in growth to 1.72 percent compared to the III quarter of 2011 which amounted to 3.76 percent. Slowing growth in the fourth quarter was due to the decline in growth of the type food and beverage industry which reached -7.18 percent compared to the third quarter which reached up to by 10.96 percent. In addition, this slowdown was also caused by a decline in growth in the chemical industry and chemical products in the fourth quarter of -2.45 percent compared to the previous quarter which reached 9.25 percent. Although for the type of rubber and industry rubber and plastic goods in the fourth quarter increased by 4.93 percent compared to the third quarter of the same year which only reached 1.26 percent.

The growth rate of the Micro and Small Industries sector in South Sumatra last quarter compared to that of the year previously it always experienced positive growth at 3.30 percent. Also in general during in 2011 the Micro and small industries experienced growth of up to 4.28 percent.
