Abstract

The city of Palembang in August 2012 experienced inflation of 0.51 percent as indicated by the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 131.87 (July 2012) to 132.54 (August 2012), while nationally there was inflation of 0.95 percent .
Inflation that occurred in Palembang in August 2012 was due to an increase in CPI in all expenditure groups, namely the education, recreation and sports group (2.08 percent), the transportation, communication and financial services group (1.23 percent), the foodstuffs group ( 0.44 percent), the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group (0.28 percent), the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group (0.06 percent), the clothing group and the health group (respectively by 0.05 percent).
2012 calendar year inflation in Palembang City was 2.02 percent, while year on year inflation (August 2012 to August 2011) was 3.51 percent.
Based on monitoring prices in 66 cities in Indonesia shows that all cities experience inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Palu City (2.81 percent) and the lowest inflation occurred in Medan City (0.04 percent).
