Abstract

The city of Palembang in December 2011 experienced inflation of 0.35 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 129.46 (November 2011) to 129.91 (December 2011), while nationally there was inflation of 0.57 percent.

The inflation that occurred in Palembang in December 2011 was due to an increase in CPI for all expenditure groups, namely: the foodstuffs group (0.60 percent), the processed food group, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco (0.02 percent), housing, water, electricity and fuel groups (0.39 percent), clothing group (0.18 percent), health group (0.03 percent), education group recreation and sports (0.02 percent) and the transportation and communication group (0.45 percent).

The 2011 calendar year inflation which is also a year on year inflation (December 2011 towards December 2010) in Palembang City was 3.78 percent.

Based on monitoring prices in 66 cities in Indonesia shows that all cities experience inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kupang City (2.19 percent) and the lowest inflation occurred in Tanjung City Areca nut (0.02 percent).
