Abstract

The number of the workforce in South Sumatra in February 2016 reached 4,053,706 people, an increase of about 35,844 people compared to the February 2015 workforce of 4,017,862 people or an increase of 118,919 people compared to August 2015 of 3,934,787 people.
  • The number of people working in South Sumatra Province in February 2016 reached 3,894,181 people, an increase of around 78,538 people compared to the situation in February 2015 of 3,815,643 people or an increase of about 198,315 people compared to the August 2015 situation of 3,695,866 people.
  • The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in South Sumatra Province in February 2016 reached 3.94 percent, a decrease compared to the February 2015 TPT of 5.03 percent and the August 2015 TPT of 6.07 percent.
  • In the February 2016 period, the majority of the population worked in the agriculture, plantation, forestry, hunting and fisheries sectors which accounted for around 51.14 percent of the entire population employed.
  • Based on the number of hours worked in February 2016, 2,415,305 people (62.02 percent) worked above 35 hours per week, while the population worked with less than 15 hours per week reaching 329,935 people (8.47 percent)
  • In February 2016, the population working at the elementary school level and below still dominated, namely 1,838,174 people (47.20 percent), while the population worked with diploma education at 67,115 people (1.72 percent), and the population worked with university education only 246,236 people (6.32 percent).
