Abstract

  • Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) * South Sumatra in May 2015 amounted to 97.42 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in May 2015 decreased compared to the base year of 2012. Meanwhile, when compared to the previous month, the May 2015 NTP decreased by 0.43 percent due to an increase in the price index received by farmers is smaller than the increase in the price index paid by farmers in general.
  • The South Sumatra Agricultural Exchange (NTUP) in May 2015 was 102.21 percent, indicating that in general farmers' purchasing power in May 2015 was better than the base year of 2012. When compared to the previous month, NTUP in May 2015 decreased by 0.09 percent.
  • NTP without the South Sumatra Fisheries Sector in May 2015 was 97.36 percent, indicating that in general the purchasing power of farmers in May 2015 declined compared to the base year of 2012. Similarly, when compared to the previous month, the NTP without fisheries in May 2015 fell by 0.46 percent.
  • NTUP Without the South Sumatra Fisheries Sector in May 2015 was 102.21 percent, indicating that in general farmers purchasing power in May 2015 was better than the base year of 2012. However, when compared to the previous month, NTUP in May 2015 also fell by 0.12 percent.
  • Based on NTP and NTUP sub-sectors, in May 2015 almost all sub-sectors experienced an increase compared to April 2015 except for the food crops sub-sector. NTP and NTUP which increased sequentially occurred in the horticulture sub-sector, which rose 0.45 percent and 0.79 percent respectively, the fisheries sub-sector each rose 0.26 and 0.54 percent, the plantation sub-sector respectively rose 0 , 16 and 0.50 percent, and finally the livestock sub-sector rose by 0.16 and 0.32 percent respectively while the food crops sub-sector fell by 2.19 and 1.77 percent respectively.
  • Rural inflation / deflation is indicated by changes in the price index of goods and services consumed by farm households. In May 2015, rural areas in South Sumatra experienced inflation of 0.66 percent. The highest inflation occurred in the foodstuffs group at 1.16 percent.
