Abstract

The number of poor population (population below the poverty line) in South Sumatra Province in September 2014 was 1,085. 795 people or 13.62 percent. Compared to the poor population in March 2014 which amounted to 1,110,829 (13.91 percent), meaning the number of poor people fell by 15,034 people.

During the March-September 2014 period, the number of poor people in urban areas rose by 3,736 people, or by 0.03 percent. In rural areas it experienced a decline of 18,770 people, or by 0.46 percent.

The composition of the poor by area of residence (urban and rural) has not changed much, with the majority (65.85 percent) of the poor being in rural areas.
