Abstract

  • In January2014, there was an inflation of 1.07 percent in Palembang City. The cumulative inflation rate in 2014 is the same as January inflation of 1.07 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (January2014 to January2013) was 7.16 percent. Of the 82 cities that calculate the consumer price index, 78 cities experienced inflation and 4 cities experienced deflation.
  • Commodities that experienced price increases with the highest inflation share in Palembang included: red chili, household fuel, cars, chicken and daily newspapers. While commodities experiencing price declines with the highest deflation share include: rice, shallots, brick / stone, siam conjoined fish and catfish.
  • From 7 expenditure groups, all groups experienced an increase in price index, namely the foodstuffs group of 2.36 percent; the processed food, beverages, cigarettes & tobacco group by 0.36 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas & fuel group by 1.01 percent clothing group by 0,37 percent; health group 0.46 percent; the education, recreation and sports group 0.86 percent and the transportation, communication & financial services group by 0.71 percent.
  • In the city of Lubuk Linggau in January 2014 it experienced an inflation of 1.36 percent. The cumulative inflation rate in 2014 is the same as January is 1.36 percent and the inflation rate "year on year" (January 2014 to January 2013) is 6.64 percent.
  • Commodities that experienced price increases with the highest inflation share in Lubuk Linggau City during January 2014 included: red chili, household fuel, instant dry noodles, water spinach and zinc. While commodities that experienced a decline in prices with the highest share of deflation included: pedigreed chicken meat, onions, brick / stone, beef and cassava leaves.
  • In January 2014 South Sumatra, which is a combination of Palembang City and Lubuk Linggau City, experienced inflation of 1.10 percent. The cumulative inflation rate in 2014 is the same as January is 1.10 percent and the year on year inflation rate is 7.11 percent.
  • Of the 23 CPI cities in Sumatra that counted inflation in January2014, all inflation was sequentially highest in Pangkal Pinang City by 3.79 percent followed by Tanjung Pandan 3.60 percent and Sibolga 3.21 percent, while the lowest was from Pekan New and Dumai respectively 0.69 and 0.43 percent
