Abstract

The number of the workforce in South Sumatra in August 2013 reached 3,646,996 people, a decrease of around 257,982 compared to the February 2013 workforce of 3,904,978 people or a decrease of 99,377 people compared to August 2012 of 3,746,373 people.

The number of people working in South Sumatra Province in August 2013 reached 3,464,620 people, a decrease of around 225,983 compared to the situation in February 2013 of 3,690,603 people or a decrease of 68,312 people compared to the situation in August 2012 of 3,532,932 people.

The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in South Sumatra Province in August 2013 reached 5.00 percent, a decrease compared to the February 2013 TPT of 5.49 percent and the August 2012 TPT of 5.70 percent.

During the last year (August 2012 - August 2013), the number of working population experienced an increase especially in the Trade Sector of around 27,720 people (1.08 percent), and the Community Services Sector of 21,097 people (0.86 percent). While the sectors that experienced a decline were the Agriculture Sector by 96,597 people (1.68 percent) and the Industrial Sector by 27,469 people (0.68 percent)
