Abstract

  • The economic growth of South Sumatra Province in the first quarter of 2012 (q to q) contracted by -0.7 percent with oil and gas and without oil and gas -0.8 percent increased compared to the conditions in the fourth quarter of 2011 which contracted by -2.8. While year on year (y on y) developments experienced a growth of 6.9 percent with oil and gas and without oil and gas grew by 8.1 percent in the first quarter of 2012.
  • The amount of GDP based on current prices in the first quarter of 2012 reached 47.97 trillion rupiah with oil and gas and without oil and gas 35.76 trillion rupiahs while the GDP at constant 2000 prices in the same quarter amounted to 17.17 trillion rupiah with oil and gas and without oil and gas 13.79 trillion rupiah.
  • The two sectors that experienced the highest growth in the first quarter of 2012 (q to q) were the financial sector, leasing & business services grew by 1.9 percent and the transportation and communication sector 1.5 percent. While growth was quite high, namely the transportation and communication sector 15.4 percent, the trade, hotel and restaurant sector 9.0 percent, and the financial, rental and business services sector 8.2 percent.
  • On the GDP utilization side, the growth (q to q) of the government consumption component contracted quite deep to -16.2 percent due to the slow disbursement of the government budget at the beginning of the fiscal year.
  • The growth (y on y) of the GRDP component of use is positive, especially PMTDB which grew 11.3 percent. Meanwhile in terms of export-import transactions, the import component grew very high by 30.9 percent and negative exports were -1.6 percent. This shows the greater dominance of imported goods in the economy of South Sumatra.
